Smells good.

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:16 pm by Karen

We were walking out to the car the other day, and Sarah stopped.

“Mom, what is that smell?”

“What smell, honey-bee?”

“It smells so…… good!!!

“Well, I think it’s….. spring!”

We drove around with her window down, little face turned up to the sun, and hair blowing in the fresh almost-spring-still-kind-of-cold air.

We really can’t wait to get out more!

These holidays are kicking my butt.

Being a Mom, it seems that there are so many more times in my life that I need to be prepared.  For events that effect more than just me.  Birthdays, both for my kids and for their little friends.  Special dinners, show and tell days, fundraisers at school, ‘let’s wear red, a funny hat and all of our clothes backwards’ kinds of days, and I’m trying, trying really hard to keep on top of them all.  Especially since preparedness seems to go against my very nature.  See:  Christmas post one month after Christmas.  And, my half-assed (excuse me) attempt at Christmas New Year’s/no-cards-at-all cards this year.

Remember how my Christmas went?

So now, of course, we’ve just had Valentine’s day.  At the end of January, the seasonal section at Wal Mart turned red and pink.  Thinking about being prepared, I let the kids each choose a box of Valentine’s cards.  There was a whole row devoted to these Valentines: princesses and Hello Kitty, Dora, Diego, Barbie, Super Heros and on and on.  After much thought, Sarah chose Dora, and Ben chose Harley Davidson (go figure).  Of course, as soon as we got home, they wanted to get right into them, but it being 3 weeks before Valentine’s day, I put them away, because we’d be sure to lose them.

(Do you see where I’m going with this?)

Fast forward 3 weeks to the eve of Sarah’s preschool Valentine’s party.  It’s 8pm, and I’m looking for the box of Dora Valentines.  They were not to be found anywhere.

And Sarah, being the age of 4, and having had a Valentine’s party last year, knew all about it this year, and was asking me on and off for days about when the party was going to be.  And when she could do her Valentines.  She was so excited.

And so, there I am, at Wal Mart, 9 pm the night before her party, in front of the remaining 10 boxes of Valentine’s, trying to find something that she would like.  Fortunately, one of those 10 boxes was Dora, so I was in and out of  the store in 10 minutes, but still, this is getting ridiculous.

So the next holiday is Easter, and we’re actually going to be in Mexico as a family.

I’ve already been asked if the Easter bunny comes to Mexico.

And, I’m not so sure that he does.

In recent news

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:11 pm by Karen

I haven’t mentioned this yet, but Ben is toilet trained!  Yippee!  Aside from naps and bedtime, we are diaper free!  (Sometimes in the morning, he’ll have a look to see what he has on to see if he can be lazy or not.  What a boy!)  The first week of January, he just decided that he wanted to go on the toilet, and wear gaunchies.  In fact, he told me on the same day that he was going to wear underwear, and that he didn’t want to nap anymore.  I told him that that wasn’t an option, because that was far too much growing up for one day.

I feel like he’s going to regress any minute, because really, I feel like I haven’t really done anything to get him to this point.  Sure we talked about it, and he sat on the toilet periodically, but we didn’t have to do any reward type games or anything.  He just decided, and that’s great!

In Sarah news, yesterday we got a note from her preschool teacher:

“Karen, Today Sarah read these words all by herself: dog, sat, mat, cat, hat and pig.  I showed her how the letter         sounds.  She knows if you say them very fast they make words.  WOW!”

I showed Travis the note, and we looked at each other and said, “So, where did she learn that?!?”

Good thing she goes to preschool!

And you’ll see my flickr page.  I figure that it’s an easier way to share my pictures, and more of them, then just on the blog.  So go ahead and click on there, and see where it takes you!

I also have a set of pictures that documents the chaos that we call rennovating so that if you’re interested, you can see what we do in our spare time!

Have fun!
